ALX.150

ALX.150 is a draw-wire sensor that combines length measurement up to 15 metres and 0–360° angle sensing in a single unit. With CANopen output, millimetre length resolution and ±0.1° angle accuracy, it is designed for boom position monitoring on mobile cranes, aerial platforms and LMI systems. Full metal enclosure and IP65 protection suit harsh field conditions.

Technical Details

ALX.150 is the 15-metre range model in the Avioni ALX draw-wire family. It combines length and integrated angle sensing in one enclosure, reducing wiring complexity and improving reliability compared with separate sensors. It is designed for simultaneous boom length and angle monitoring on mobile cranes, aerial work platforms, knuckle-boom cranes and load moment indication (LMI) applications.

Draw-Wire Length Measurement

ALX.150 uses draw-wire (cable encoder) principle to measure steel cable payout on the boom or telescopic arm and produce real-time length data. The 15-metre range covers most mobile crane and aerial platform applications. Length is transmitted at millimetre resolution over CAN. An optional cable reel supports neat cable storage and extended mechanical life.

Integrated Angle Sensor

Integrated single-axis angle sensor provides 0–360° measurement in vertical position. Range configurable as 0–360° or -180° .. +180° via CAN; direction clockwise or counter-clockwise. Resolution 0.01° (adjustable to 0.1° via CAN). Accuracy ±0.1°. Delivers reliable boom angle data for LMI and safety limit control.

Signal Processing and Filtering

Moving average and Kalman filters against vibration, wind and mechanical play. Stable length and angle data to ECU or LMI software; minimises false limit triggers.

CANopen Communication

Node-ID 1–127 (default: 1). Baud rate 20 kbps–1 Mbps (default: 250 kbps). Message period 10–1000 ms (default: 100 ms). Heartbeat 0x700 + Node-ID. Optional redundancy for safety-critical use.

Mechanical and Electrical Features

Full metal enclosure, IP65, -40 °C to +85 °C. Supply 8–35 V DC with full electrical protection. M12 4-pin or cable outlet connection.

System Integration

Integrates with Avioni ECUs, HMIs and LMI software. Works with PL1000 load cells and 3X inclinometers for complete LMI solutions. Commissioning via Javelin Suite and UCAN adapters.

ALX Product Family

ALX.020/050/070 for short booms; ALX.150 for medium-long booms; ALX.200 for the longest reaches. ALX.150 offers size and cost advantages where 15 m range is sufficient.

Typical Applications

• Mobile crane boom monitoring
• Knuckle-boom arm tracking
• MEWP safety limit control
• LMI systems
• Medium-boom machinery and aerial platforms
